Lawrence took place yesterday afternoon from his late residence and was attended by a detachment of the Independent Greys, of which he was a member. After the burial, the company returned to their armory on Market square and adopted the following preamble and resolutions: Whereas it has pleased Almighty God to take away from us our friend and comrade, Charles A. Lawrence; and whereas we have met together to express our sincere sorrow for the sad loss we have sustained in his death; therefore be it Resolved, That the Norfolk Independent Greys lament the loss of Charles A. Lawrence as a soldier, as a citizen, as a friend, and as a brother. Resolved, That the death of one of so young, so promising and so worthy, in our ranks, not only fills our hearts with grief, but admonishes us of the uncertainty of human life. Resolved, That the afflicted relatives of the deceased have the heartfelt sympathy of the Independent Greys in their bereavement. Resolved, That every member of the company will wear our badge of mourning for thirty days. Resolved, That these resolutions be published in the city papers.
