Lawrence, 102, of the 6100 block of Sedgefield Drive, was called by God to her final resting place on Feb. 9, 2000. She departed on her final journey peacefully and quietly at a local nursing facility surrounded by one of her daughters, her son and a grandson. She was the widow of Noah D. Lawrence Sr. and was predeceased by two daughters, Marion Alston and Alcenia Harps. Left to celebrate her extraordinary long and fruitful life are two daughters, Lona Florence and Barbara Pritchard and husband, Joseph; a son, Noah D. Lawrence Jr.; eight grandchildren, John Wesley Manuel, Jacqueline Lawrence, Natalye Harps Clark, Dorn Lawrence, Brenda Harps Upshur, Traci Lawrence Jones, Joseph Pritchard Jr. and Nikeva Lawrence; nine great-grandchildren; four cousins; other relatives; a very special son-in-law, the Rev. Nathaniel Harps and his wife, Celeste; and numerous friends. Mrs. Lawrence was a loyal and active member of Norfolk's Greater Metropolitan AME Zion Church for over 60 years. She worshiped there faithfully until her health failed and she could no longer attend services. A loving and caring mother and grandmother, she was known for her quiet and gentle mannerisms and compassion for others. She was loved by all those she touched. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Greater Metropolitan AME Zion Church, Brambleton Ave., Norfolk. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Riddick Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. until the funeral hour Monday at the church. Family and friends are asked to convene at 10 a.m. at 6140 Sedgefield Drive for the procession.
