Norfolk - Funeral rites for Mrs. Gertrude B. Lawrence of 714 E. Olney road were 
conducted Thursday in Riddick Funeral Chapel.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

A native of Bertie County, Mrs. Lawrence was the wife of James H. Lawrence and a 
daughter of Mrs. Beulah Bell and the late Edward Bell.  She died Sunday in a 
hospital.

Besides her husband and mother, surviving are a son, James E. Lawrence of the 
Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC;  three daughters, Mrs. Ella Lee 
Slash of Pikesville, KY, Mrs. Barbara J. White of Norfolk, and Miss Willie Mae 
Lawrence of Chicago;  three brothers, George Waters and Louis Bell, both of 
Edenton, NC, and Hollie Bell of Florida;  three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Hexstall and 
Miss Katie Sue Bell of Edenton and Miss Mary Bell of  Portsmouth;  and six 
grandchildren.
