Kathleen Raby Lawton, 84, of the 700 block of Shillelagh Road, died Thursday, May 
22, 1997, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Lawton was born in Norfolk. She was the daughter of the late Vernon Raby and 
Marcella Smith Cudd and the widow of Phillip C. Lawton. Mrs. Lawton was a former 
waitress with Duck-In, Virginia Beach, and Miller Enterprises. She was a member of 
Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Joan Hicks of Chesapeake; two sons, Robert 
C. Lawton and Charles A. Lawton, both of Norfolk; 14 grandchildren, John D. Hicks, 
Sharon D. Bolt, Mark A. Hicks, Kathy L. Rider, Joan M. Shepard, Robin G. Hicks, 
Kelly J. Hicks, Brian C. Hicks, Kathy Lee Mallard, Pam Renus, Chrissy Land, Pamela 
Anne Lawton, Lee Lawton and Brad Lawton; eight great-grandchildren, Phillip Ange, 
Tania Ange, Shelley Bolt, Curtis Osterman, Levi D. Hicks, Michael Keith Mallard, 
Marcella Leigh Mallard, Todd Land; and a great-great-grandson, Brent T. Ange; a 
brother, DeWitt C. Cudd; a sister, Dorothy Cudd, both of Orlando, Fla.; and a 
niece, Mary Elizabeth Propes.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, 
Great Bridge, by the Rev. Christian Haydinger. The family will receive friends 
following the service at her daughter's residence, 741 Shillelagh Road, 
Chesapeake. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
