She was a native of Norfolk and had been a resident of Churchland since 1902. She was a daughter of the late Moses Alexander and Mrs. Annie Zella Cason Brown. Mrs. Lawton was a member of the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church, Esther Chapter, O.E.S., Ladies Auxiliary, Spanish War Veterans, and Ladies Auxiliary, Post No. 993, V.F.W., of Portsmouth. In addition to her husband she is survived by one son, George Melvin Lawton; one sister, Mrs. Myra Hummel; two brothers, Moses A Brown, Jr., and John Shipp Cason Brown, all of Churchland. Funeral services will be conducted at the Cox Funeral Home tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. by the Rev. R.E.F. Aler, pastor of the Churchland Baptist Church, and the Rev. S.K.Emurian, pastor of the Oakdale Farms Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
