VIRGINIA BEACH — William Henry Layman, 77, formerly of North Hampton Boulevard, 
died Saturday in a Chesapeake nursing home. A native of Healing Springs who 
lived in this area most of his life, he was the husband of the late Sallie Jones 
Layman.
He was retired from Kline Chevrolet as a painter and was a member of Temple  
Baptist Church.
Survivors include a stepson, Allen J. Gettel of Virginia Beach; four sisters, 
Nancy Height of Healing Springs, Gladys L. DeVenney of Clifton Forge, Susie 
Porter of Huntington, W.Va., and Duck Keeter of Norfolk; a brother, Everett 
Layman of Healing Springs; a stepgrandchild; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 
Bayside Chapel, by the Rev. Mark Pullen. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery will be 
private. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
