Mrs. Legge spent the first part of her adult life in the Cheshire, Conn., area as a wife and mother to her beloved family. She was a generous volunteer in social causes. In 1956, she and her husband and son moved to North Springfield, Va., and began a life of extensive travel in Europe and the Western Hemisphere, culminating in a three-year residency in Lima, Peru. She worked closely with her husband during this period promoting the free labor union movement along democratic lines in less developed areas to avoid the advancement of communism and promote the freedom of workers everywhere. She remains a central figure in her family's lives and is held in admiration, gratitude and love. She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace J. Legge, and a son, Wallace J. Legge Jr., and is survived by a daughter, Patricia Foran, and husband, John, of Norfolk; a son, William Legge, and wife, Allison, of Durham, N.C.; five grandchildren and their spouses, John and Regina Foran Jr. of Burke, Va., Constance and A. Robertson Hanckel Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., Brian and Jennifer Foran of Suffolk, Timothy and Yoon Jeong Foran of Jacksonville, Fla., and Tara Foran of Burbank, Calif.; and five great-grandchildren, Daniel, Carolyn and Hannah Foran and John and A. Robertson Hanckel III. Mrs. Legge was also predeceased by three sisters, Alice Walker and Margaret LaBonne and Jean Higgins; and two brothers, Harry Walker Jr. and Peter Walker. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, is handling arrangements. Mrs. Legge's family wishes to express their gratitude to the entire staff at Marian Manor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
