Mr. Leicht, who was 76 years old, was born in Bavaria and came to America at the age of 24. He moved to Norfolk in 1909 from Ashland, Ky., where he had successfully operated seven large sawmills and developed three subdivisions. He became naturalized while a resident there. His first venture in Norfolk was the purchase of farmlands for the development of Winona, now one of Norfolk’s most popular residential sections. His own home at 1419 Huntington crescent was the third house erected in Winona and he had lived there approximately 15 years. Recently Hurt In Fall Mr. Leicht, who seemed to be in the best of health, left his home early yesterday morning and went to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he attended mass. The Rev. E. A. Brosnan, pastor of the church, said Mr. Leicht had gone over to the Knights of Columbus home across the street shortly after 9 o’clock, remarking that he intended to rest a while. He had been there about two hours and a half, when he suffered the stroke and was rushed to the hospital. The realtor was hurt in a fall on the street several weeks ago, it was said at his home yesterday, and was confined for two or three days, but, other than that, he had rarely missed a day at his office. Mr. Leicht was president of the Jacob Leicht Realty and Construction Company, the Leicht Real Estate Company, the Ocean View Annex Company and the Homes Association of Norfolk, and, besides Winona, he had been instrumental in the development of Lenox, Camden Heights, Riverfront and Roland Park. He bought Lenox several years ago from the Commercial Realty Company. Active in Bond Sales During the World War, Mr. Leicht took an active part in the campaign for the sale of Liberty Bonds. He volunteered as a three-minute man and made innumerable talks, with the result that he won the distinction of selling more of the bonds than any other one person in Norfolk. He was a member of the Norfolk Real Estate Board and the Norfolk-Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, and had formerly been a director of both bodies. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, having attained to the fourth degree. Mr. Leicht is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Leicht; two sisters, Mrs. F. P. Kennedy, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mrs. Rose Sykes, of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Mueller, of Bayern, Germany, and six grandchildren, Miss Mary Sykes, of Norfolk, and Anne, Frank, J. J., Frances and William Kennedy, of Cleveland. Funeral arrangements had not been completed last night pending the arrival of Mrs. Leicht from Baltimore today where she was spending a few days. Other relatives are expected to arrive from Cleveland. The body has been removed to the funeral apartments of H. D. Oliver, 610-12 East Freemason street. Jacob Leicht - Remains of Mr. Leicht, whose death occurred Monday afternoon at a local hospital, will be taken from H. D. Oliver’s funeral apartments, 610-12 East Freemason street, to St. Mary’s Catholic Church for services tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
