Virginian Pilot June 13, 1968

Samuel Douglass Lester, 82, the husband of the late Mrs. Nora Meekins Lester and 
son of Charles and Mrs. Matilda Wescott Lester, died in a hospital Wednesday at 
2:39 a.m.
A native of Manteo, N.C., he lived here 49 years. He retired as a Substation 
operator of Virginia Electric and Power Co. after 34 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. H.S. Tarkenton Jr. of Norfolk and Mrs. 
Edward J. Lewis of Rockville, Md.; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Norfolk 
Chapel, Friday at noon by the Rev. Frank L. Rose of Episcopal Church of 
Ascension. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
