On Sunday November 11, Theodore Lewis, Sr., passed away at Sentara Norfolk 
General Hospital. A native of Lynchburg, Virginia, he was a graduate of Norfolk 
State College (University) and Youngstown State University. 

Theodore taught 31 years in the Suffolk School System and coached basketball at 
Southwestern and John Yeates High Schools. He was also employed at Norfolk and 
Western Railroad and the Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). His 
civic activities included the Southside Task Force, Beacon Light Civic League, 
Berkley Community Civic League, and nearly six years as a Commissioner of the 
Hospital Authority of Norfolk. 

Cherishing his memory are his wife, Ruth Joyner Lewis, sons, Rev. Theodore Lewis 
Jr., Elgin Lewis (Valerie), Darryl Lewis (Towanda) and Rodney Greene 
(Jacqueline) grandchildren, Nicole, Desiree, Ivan and Kellen; great-
grandchildren, Nikyla and Ken. 

Viewing Friday 3 - 8 p.m. and the family will receive guests 6 - 7 p.m. at 
Riddick Funeral Service, the funeral will be held Saturday 10 a.m. at Shiloh 
Baptist Church, 745 Park Avenue and the viewing will begin at 9 a.m. on 
Saturday.
