Virginian Pilot December 19, 1955


Charles William Lewis, 74, husband of Mabel Burton Lewis and son of the late 
John William Lewis and Mrs. Janie Oast Lewis, a native of Baltimore, Md., a 
former resident of Portsmouth and a resident of Norfolk for the last 28 years, 
died at 3:15 p.m. yesterday in a Norfolk hospital.

For the last eight years he had been employed by the Western Fruit Company. 
Prior to this he was employed for 43 years as the chief clerk for the 
Merchants’ and Miners’ and for the Norfolk and Western Railway Company.

Besides his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Derry-Twiford Funeral Home Tuesday at 
noon by the Rev. Edward H. Jones, D.D., pastor of the First Presbyterian 
Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
