He was born in Camden, N.J., and was the son of the late Joseph and Doralice Adamoli Lipoli. He was a graduate of Maury High School and attended Old Dominion University. He was an Army veteran of World War II, spending four years in Germany and France. For his valor, he received the Purple Heart Medal. He was a retired restaurateur and was partner for 25 years in the Norfolk landmark, Freddy's Restaurant, with his wife's uncle, Freddy Chincello. He was a chef, and, with his wife and son, catered for the Norfolk Botanical Garden. He created a recipe for bread pudding with My Dad's Italian Delights that received national recognition. He was a former residential builder and apartment owner and manager, loved painting in charcoal and oils and was also a sculptor. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Ocean View Council, and was a member of its 4th Degree. He was Past Grand Commander and Past District Commander of the International Order of the Alhambra, Padul Caravan No. 69. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Catherine Riganto Lipoli of Norfolk; his daughter, Doralece Lipoli Dullaghan, and her husband, William, of Virginia Beach; his son, Frank Joseph Lipoli, and his wife, Debra, of Chesapeake; sister, Josephine L. Phipps, of Norfolk; brother, Louis DePaulo, of Chatham, Va.; his grandsons, Michael J. Dullaghan and his wife, Lisa, Matthew Dullaghan and Derek Lipoli; and his great-granddaughters, Caroline, Catherine, Carter and Camryn Dullaghan. The Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Pius X. Catholic Church Monday at 11:30 a.m. with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Father Thomas Powers will officiate. The Alhambra will conduct the crescent service in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Sunday at 3 p.m. with visitation to follow with the family until 5 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children, 6171 Kempsville Circle, Norfolk, VA 23502 or to the International Order of the Alhambra.
