Born in Norfolk, Va., she was the daughter of the late Nancy Williams Odom and Frank L. Odom. She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Odom Madison; her husband, William A. Lipscomb Jr.; and her son, George Libscomb. Eunice attended the Norfolk Public School System and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School with honors. She, then, attended Virginia State College (now University) at Ettrick. She was graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Continuing her studies, she completed the residency requirements for the Masters of Science Degree Program. Upon graduation, she began work with the Norfolk Public Schools. Later, she left to begin work with the Norfolk Department of Public Services. In 1940, she married William A. Lipscomb Jr. and moved to Newport News, Va. Shortly after, she became employed at the Department of Social Services in Newport News. It was a quick rise for her to become Supervisor in the Child Welfare Department where she was responsible for all foster care, adoptions, and for a long period of time, all protective services for the city. In spite of her busy schedule, Eunice and Bill traveled extensively. After her retirement, they continued to travel throughout Europe, Hawaii and the United States until the death of her husband in 1983. Failing health brought about her relocation and return to her native hometown. Eunice is survived by two sisters, Mildred O. Graves ('Tom') and Hermine O. Harris (Emerson), both of Norfolk; two nephews, Lawrence Madison of New York and Thomas E. Graves III of Norfolk; one niece, Lorraine E. Graves of Norfolk; two great-nephews, Thomas E. Graves IV and Jason Scott Graves, both of Chesapeake; and a host of other cousins and friends. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, in the Chapel of Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church St., Norfolk, Va., with Dr. G.G. Campbell presiding. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery . Family and friends will assemble at 1902 Montclair Ave., Norfolk, one hour prior to the service for the procession to the funeral. The Family wishes to thank all health care workers at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, DePaul Medical Center, Shepherd's Village Assisted Living Home and Thornton Hall for their professionalism and acts of kindness. A special 'thank you' to Juliette Trevan, her personal care giver for many moths. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
