Norfolk Virginian September  7, 1880

Our people will be shocked to learn of the death of Mr. C.R. Lipscomb of this 
city, at his residence last night. Mr. Lipscomb had but recently returned from 
the springs in apparently good health and last night went to a lodge meeting of 
Odd Fellows at the Opera House, where he remained for a few minutes, and at 
about 8:15 o'clock was stricken suddenly with paralysis and upon being conveyed 
to his house expired soon after, not having spoken since the beginning of the 
attack. Mr. Lipscomb resided at No. 41 Wood Street; was fifty years of age and 
leaves a wife and family, to whom we tender our sympathy in this their sudden 
bereavement.  Due notice of the funeral will be given hereafter.

LIPSCOMB - In this city, September 6th, of paralysis, CHARLES R. LIPSCOMB, in 
the 50th year of his age.
His funeral will take place at the Cumberland Street Baptist Church on THURSDAY 
AFTERNOON at half past 3 o'clock. Friends and acquaintances and surviving 
members of the Huger Battery respectfully invited to attend.

                       Funeral of Mr. C.R. Lipscomb

The funeral of this lamented gentleman will take place on Thursday afternoon at 
3:30 p.m. from the Cumberland Street Baptist Church and will be attended by the 
Independent Order of Foresters of this city and Portsmouth.
