Virginian-Pilot  March 17, 1899
The remains of Mr. Patrick Lofter, a boiler-maker by profession, employed at the 
shipyard in Newport News, who died at St. Vincent’s Hospital Wednesday morning, 
were taken to his former home that afternoon and the funeral was solemnized from 
the Catholic Church of that city yesterday. The deceased was a member of the 
Brotherhood of Boiler-Makers, Iron Shipbuilders of the World, and the Ancient 
Order of Hibernians. He was 26 years old and unmarried. A widowed mother survives 
him. His obsequies were held under the auspices of the organizations to which he 
belonged.

Additional Comments:
From the funeral record, his last name may have been Lofters.
