Norfolk - Mrs. Essie Long, 70, 884 Washington Ave., died at the residence Sunday
at 6:30 a.m. after a short illness.

A native of Norfolk, she was a daughter of Mingo and Mrs. Victorice Gwaltney and
the widow of John M. Long.

She was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church for over 53 years and taught
Sunday school there for some 35 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Bernice Bates, of Norfolk, and three sisters,
Mrs. Maggie Davis, of Norfolk; Mrs. Nellie Rucker, of Chicago IL; and Mrs. Susie
Asgill, of Hoboken NJ.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Queen Street Baptist
Church by the Rev. J. Jasper Freeman, pastor. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church from Riddick Funeral Service
Thursday at 10 a.m.
