Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, May 7, 2001 
NORFOLK - Willie L. Long, 81, of the 900 block of Round Bay Road, died May 4,
2001 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

He was born in Norfolk and retired from Norfolk Naval Supply Center in 1976
after 36 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years. Mr. Long
was a member of First Baptist Church Bute Street and the Fellowship of Deacons.
He was a former member of the Board of Managers of Shepherds Way, the Homecoming
Committee and the Big Brotherhood Bible Class. He attended Norfolk Public
Schools and Valis Barber College.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Selden Long; two daughters, Charlotte Long
Murphy of Milford, N.H. and Debra Long Dollar of Virginia Beach; a son,
Frederick C. Long of Columbia, Md.; a sister, Bernice L. Gibbs; two brothers,
Robert C. Long of Petersburg, Va. and Aaron Long of Philadelphia, Pa.; four
grandchildren, Michael Long of Baltimore, Md., Gregory Long of Laurel, Md.,
Charita Ughu of Milford, N.H., Lynsey Dollar of Virginia Beach; a
great-grandchild, R. Jay Murphy of Milford; and nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his parents, Laura Williams Long and James Long.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church Bute
Street by Dr. Robert G. Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Family and
friends will assemble at the residence at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday for the funeral
procession. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
