Long, 84, of the 700 block of Driskill Court, died peacefully at her home May 17, 2004. A native of Norfolk, she retired as a kindergarten teacher after 16 years of service from Mount Olive Kindergarten. She also retired after 14 years from Norfolk Social Service Bureau as a social service aide. She was a member of First Baptist Church Bute Street Norfolk, its Female Usher Board No. 2 and sang in the Womens Chorus. She was also a member of Owls Social Club, graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and attended Howard University, where she majored in music. Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Murphy and Debra Dollar; a son, Frederick Long; four grandchildren, Michael Long, Gregory Long, Charita Ughu and Lynsey Dollar; three great-grandchildren, Ronald Murphy, Emmanuel Ughu and Jaden Long; and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Willie Long; her parents, Mary Selden and William Selden Sr.; a sister, Velma Charlotte; and a brother, William Selden Jr. A funeral will be held at noon Saturday at First Baptist Church Bute Street by Dr. Robert G. Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Hale Funeral Home is in charge.
