W.J. Lord former commander of the British steamer Montauk Point died yesterday at the Sarah Leigh hospital. A pathetic feature is that the wife and children of the dead man are in a foreign land and his ship is somewhere on the ocean. The remains will be likely be buried here. The Montauk Point last month loaded a cargo at Savannah and on the 31sto of that month called here for coal. At the time Captain Lord was ill and it was deemed advisable to send him to the hospital. This was down by the ship’s agent, Castner, Curran and Bullit. Mate Moxen was placed in charge of the steamer, which sailed for Europe.
