JOHN Z. LOWE PERISHED The Nags Head Hotel, at Nags Head, N.C., a popular ocean front resort on the North Carolina coast, was totally destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon. The guests of the hostelry were assembling in the dining room for supper, when a large kerosene chandelier, which lighted that apartment, exploded. Instantly the interior of the dining room was a mass of flames, and in an incredibly short time the entire building was a pile of smoldering ruins. Mrs. John Z. Lowe, of Norfolk, wife of the proprietor of the hotel, sustained a nervous shock during the height of the excitement, which resulted in her death. Mrs. Lowe is said to have been a sufferer from heart trouble and this weakness is thought to have been the chief contributory cause to her death. She breathed her last about a quarter of an hour after the fire started. This was the only casualty. There were about 150 guests at the hotel and all of them escaped injury. Mrs. Lowe's body was brought to this city last night from Elizabeth City. Announcement as to the funeral arrangements are yet to be made. Mrs. Lowe, was about 42 years old. She was a daughter of the late Mrs. M.S. James, who was identified with the hotel business in Norfolk for a number of years. Mrs. Lowe was a half sister of Mr. Edward James, of the Monticello Hotel, this city, and a half sister of Mrs. S.M. Eley, of East Orange, N.J.
