WILLIAM J. LUKE DIES OF BLOOD POISON Capt. William J. Luke, one of the best known residents of Berkley died at 6:10 o'clock yesterday morning in one of the hospitals. Capt. Luke had been suffering from a carbuncle on the back of his neck several days and blood poisoning developed Friday night. He rested easily Saturday but sank rapidly that night. For many years, Capt. Luke was storekeeper for the Norfolk Southern, which position he held until about eight years ago when he engaged in the hardware business, Wilson Road and Maple Avenue. He having purchased property there and erected a store. Capt. Luke had many friends. He was a son of the late Dr. G.G. Luke, of North Carolina, but had lived in Berkley more than thirty years. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Luke; his widow, Mrs. Lillian Maude Holland Luke; a daughter, Miss Gladys and son William Luke; three brothers, Paul R. Luke and L.L. Luke; two sisters, Mrs. R.R. Hobbs and Mrs. H.B. Urquhart. Funeral services will be conducted at the family residence Wilson Road, Campostella, at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Doric Lodge No. 44 A.F. and A.M. of which he was a member has been called out in a body to attend the funeral. *************************************************************** CAPTAIN LUKE --At one of the hospitals, Norfolk, after a brief illness Sunday morning, February 19, 1922, at 6:10 o'clock, CAPTAIN WILLIAM J. LUKE, son of the late Dr. G.G. Luke and Mrs. Mary Luke, of North Carolina, age 51 years. The funeral will be conducted at the family residence, Wilson Road, Campostella, TUESDAY AFTERNOON, at 4 o'clock and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends of the family invited.
