Born in Roper, N.C., she was preceded in death by her mother and father, Rennie B. Ambrose and Jasper R. Ambrose. She is survived by her loving companion of 30 years, Gene Dieck; two sons, Robert S. Fentress Jr. and wife, Teresa Fentress, of Chesapeake and James E. Cheek of Norfolk; three sisters, Betty Merritt of Chesapeake, Joyce Clodfelter of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Norma Hall of New Jersey; two brothers, Eddie Ambrose and Jasper Ambrose Jr., both of Norfolk; two granddaughters, Christi Fentress and Cierra Cheek; a stepmother, Viola Ambrose Parker and a stepsister, Patti Medel, both of Chesapeake; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Sarita Ainsley of Chesapeake, lifetime friend and sister of the heart. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and at the residence at all other times.
