He was a native of Petersburg, son of Richard A. and Cornelia Ellington, and had been a resident of Norfolk for 49 years. Prior to his illness he was an interior decorator. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. W.E. Gray, of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. W.E. Alley, of Petersburg; a brother, James H. Machen, of Norfolk; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Machen was a member of the Park Place Baptist Church and Merrimac Tribe No. 99, I.O.R.M. Funeral services will be conducted at the Ewell & Williamson Funeral Home, Thirty-fifth street at Colonial avenue, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Henry W. Tiffany, D.D., pastor of the Park Place Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
