She had been a Sister of Charity for 33 years, 32 years of which she spent in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Philadelphia, where she was in charge of the men’s ward and the male nurses at that institution. She was transferred from Philadelphia to Norfolk last August, but suffered a stroke of paralysis November 20, from which she did not recover. She had been confined to her bed practically every day since that date. Sister de Paul was a daughter of the late Edward and Bridget Flynn Madden. She was a native of Santa Clara, Cal., and is survived by two sisters, Miss Kitty Madden and Mrs. Margaret Fraser, of San Francisco. Despite the fact that she had been at St. Vincent’s only a comparatively short time, she had made a host of friends. Her work in Philadelphia had won for her considerable attention in the medical and religious world and she had expected to continue her duties at St. Vincent’s. Funeral services for Sister de Paul will be held in the chapel at St. Vincent’s tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
