Virginian-Pilot June 20, 1912
William P. Maher died at St. Vincent’s Hospital Tuesday evening after an illness 
of two weeks of meningitis, in the thirtieth year of his age. He was a native of 
Norfolk and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends, who will learn with 
sorrow of his untimely passing. He is survived by a sister, Miss Mary E. Maher, 
and a brother, John F. Maher, both of Norfolk. The remains will be taken from the 
apartments of Funeral Director H. D. Oliver, 518-520 Freemason street, to St. 
Mary’s Catholic church, at 9 a.m. this morning, where requiem mass will be 
celebrated. The interment will be in St. Mary’s cemetery.
