Virginian-Pilot July 30 & August 1, 1891
We are pained to announce the death, at Thomasville, Ga., at 3 o’clock yesterday 
morning, of Mrs. Mary Mahoney, consort of Mr. Jno. F. Mahoney, and daughter of 
Mr. O’Rourke, of this city. Mrs. M. had been in delicate health for more than a 
year and, in the hope of regaining it, went to Southern Georgia some months 
since, accompanied by her husband, where it was believed the balmy breezes of 
that far Southern clime would bring back the roses to her cheeks and health to 
both of them. And up to yesterday their friends received assurances that they 
were improving, when the startling, sad intelligence reached here that Mrs. 
Mahoney was dead and her husband seriously ill. Mrs. M. was truly a lovely, as 
well as lovable, Christian lady and the news of her sudden demise has cast a 
gloom over many families in both this city and Norfolk, where she was always so 
welcome a visitor. Notice of funeral hereafter.

The funeral of Mrs. Mollie M. Mahoney, wife of John F. Mahoney, and daughter of 
James O’Rourke, will take place TOMORROW (Sunday) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s 
Catholic Church. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend.
