"Chuck" Mamoudis, 54, died Jan. 11, 2008, in Key West, Fla. He was the son of Kyriakes and the late Helen E. Mamoudis of Virginia Beach. Chuck graduated from Great Bridge High School and Louisiana State University. He was an outstanding football player in both high school and college. Chuck was a wide receiver for the Southeastern Conference Champions LSU Tigers from 1974 - 1975. While attending college, Chuck developed his flair for cooking. He took the Cajun Creole style of cooking from New Orleans to Virginia Beach where he owned and operated Yorgy's Restaurant for many years. He was recognized far and wide for his talents, even once being selected by then-Governor Chuck Robb to represent the state of Virginia in a cook-off against the state of Florida. He will be missed by all, as Chuck never met a stranger, especially when someone wanted to talk about cooking or Tiger football. He is survived not only by his father, but his brother, John Mamoudis and his wife Lynne of Virginia Beach; nieces, Meredithe Grace of Chesterfield County, Virginia, and Alexis Mamoudis of Wilmington, N.C. The family will have a private service for Chuck in St. Mary's Cemetery, Norfolk. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations in Chuck's honor can be made to the charity of your choice.
