Mom, you are finally able to rest after almost 92 years of life. You are the ultimate survivor in this complex world we live in. Growing up in Missouri, born to Irish immigrants and staking your claim to the American dream, you persevered in the most trying of times. Blessed with a business mind from your early days of working in your father’s grocery store, you raised 10 children while working 16- hour days in order to make sure we had what we needed. And, in the course of providing for your family, you often did without. It was always your children's needs that came before your own. You were a woman in a man’s world as it related to your many endeavors, whether it was politics or business. You never saw the difference. While dedicated to your work, you always found the time to watch your sons and daughters play many sports from the bleachers. You sat with local officials in your political arena, as well as presidents. You loved the challenge of a campaign. We know Harry Truman was your idol. "Give ‘em hell Harry, give ‘em hell Helen." In your last years, you were not able to get around like you wanted to, but your mind never failed you or us. So again Mom, now you can rest. Love, Your family. Those wishing to express sympathy are asked to consider a donation in Helen’s name to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, Emergency Medical Services, 1917 Arctic Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451, (757)437-4850.
