Mansfield, USN, Ret., 80, of the 6100 block of Rolfe Avenue, died Thursday, September 17, 2015, in his residence. He was a native of Arlington, Massachusetts, and Kennebunkport, Maine, and was a resident of Hampton Roads since 1969. He was the son of the late Dr. Frederick Allen Mansfield and Margaret Grannan Mansfield. He served his country in the United States Navy with tours of duty in the Atlantic Fleet, NATO, the Pentagon and Iceland. He attained the Rank of Commander and retired after 23 years. Following his retirement, he worked as a Private Defense Contractor. He graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He was a Roman Catholic and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was a former member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Miriam White Mansfield, and his daughters, Lee Mansfield Lowe and her husband, Robert, of Nampa, Idaho, and Mary Elizabeth Mansfield of McCall, Idaho, his son, J. Lawrence Mansfield Jr., of Richmond and his sister, Joan Mansfield Brannigan, of Evanston, Illinois. He is also survived by his five grandchildren; Margaret, India Luise, Macy, Madeline and Charlie. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Joseph H. Metzger III officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Cancer Care Foundation of Tidewater, P. O. Box 12693, Norfolk, Virginia 23541. H.D.
