Pinkney Mapson, 56, known to all as "Monk" of the 700 block of Easy St., died Feb. 17, 2004. She was born March 17, 1947, in Portsmouth to the late Glinda V. Turner and James T. Pinkney. She worked as a short order cook and attended Booker T. Washington High School. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Pamela P. Lowery and Eugenia M. Craig; four sisters, Iris Short, Essie Davis, Barbara Clark and Constance Williams; two brothers, James T. Pinkney and Melvin R. Pinkney; six grandchildren, Kevin E. Mapson, Oliver O. Pinkney, Tinesha A. Pinkney, Linda A. Mapson, David F. Mapson, Pamela L. Mapson; four great-grandchildren, Arkala T. Williams, Kevin E. Mapson Jr., Quartez D.O. Pinkney Jr., and Kshawn J. Mapson; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a grandmother, Mary E. Turner and a sister, Brenda Winstead. A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St., the Rev. Gregory Chapman officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery , Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 2129 Keller Ave. one hour prior to the service for the procession to the chapel.
