MARSHALL DIED YESTERDAY Prominent Tow Boat Man And Beloved Citizen Passed Away Capt. Richard Melvin Marshall, one of the best known citizens of the ward died yesterday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock at his residence, 107 Pine street, after a lingering illness of more than a year's duration. His death was due to rheumatism, contracted in the administration of his business. Deceased was forty-two hears old. Was born in Baltimore. He came to Norfolk with his parents when about twelve years old, and has resided in this section ever since. Together with his brothers, he was engaged in the tow-boat business under the name of the Marshall Towing company, one of the largest concerns of that nature in this section. Captain Marshall was possessed of a jovial disposition in connection with his many superb business qualifications, which won for him many friends who deplore his death. He was a member of Memorial M.E. Church and at the time of his death was a member of the board of stewards. He is survived by a mother and father, Captain and Mrs. A.N. Marshall, three brothers, Jos. F., Albert M. and Walter N. Marshall; two sisters, Mrs. Anna B. Millholland, of Chicago, Ill. and Mrs. W.B. Shafer of Lee street, Berkley ward, a wife, Regina Marshall, formerly of Baltimore, Md.; three children Melvin, Barringer and Regina Esther. The funeral will take place from Memorial M.E. Church Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev. C.L. Bane, pastor, assisted by the presiding elder, the Rev. R.M. Chandler, will officiate at the ceremony. The interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. ************************************************************** Marshall's Funeral This Afternoon The funeral of the late Capt. Richard Melvin Marshall, who died at his home in Pine street Monday afternoon, will be conducted from Memorial M.E. Church this afternoon at 3 o'clock with the Rev. C.L. Bane, pastor, assisted by the Rev. R.M. Chandler, the presiding elder of this district, officiating. The interment will be in the family burial lot in Magnolia cemetery, this place. The flags of all the Marshall Brothers' tug boats were flying at half mast yesterday out of respect to the dead captain.
