She was the eldest child of the late Reon Glessner Hillegass Sr. and Mary Foley Hillegass. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Michele Marsh Divine, and her granddaughters, Cindy Porter and Amanda Divine. Mary was married to Louis E. Marsh, Jr., a handsome Navy pilot for 46 years. Following his death, she met Mason Newsome through the Appalachian Trail Club, where they were members. They spent 10 happy and peaceful years together before his death in 2000. Mary was a busy Navy wife, living in San Diego, CA; Honolulu, HI; Kwajalein, Marshall Islands and Norfolk, VA., as she raised her six daughters. Mary was devoted to her family and was involved with her aunt, cousins, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, daughters and grandchildren. Mary was kind and caring, making friends wherever she went. She was active in the Pinewell Garden Club and the Monday Bridge Club. She was a retired International Telephone Operator in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands. Mary is survived by five daughters, Mary Dee Marsh of Lubbock, TX., Patricia Rivenbark and husband Bob of Virginia Beach, Theresa Porter and husband Henry of Ventura, CA, Christina Heavner and husband Jerry of Milan, TN and Kathleen Stenvers of Chino Valley, AZ. She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Gonzalez of Warrensburg, MO and Theresa Morgan of St. George, Utah and 12 grandchildren; Kimberly Jesser, James L. Rivenbark, David Picken , Matthew Picken, Anna Twiddy, Christopher Picken, Gregory (Bud) Porter, Suzanne Leonard, Jessica Stoltzfus, Cheyenne Stoltzfus, Alexander Stenvers, Kelbe Angelina Arntz; 10 great-grandchildren; Ashley and Anna Jesser, Mary Margaret and Elizabeth Ann and Henry Leonard, Dylan and Aden Stoltzfus, Monterey Stoltzfus, Alexander and Maeva Picken. The family would like to express special thanks to Verna Logan, a devoted caregiver. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Thursday, February 9, at 11 a.m. with interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The Reverend Daniel Klem is officiating. The family will receive friends in the Norfolk chapel of H.D.
