Mrs. Martin, born in Norfolk, was the daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin W. and Mary E. Hunter Harper and was the widow of the Rev. Agalious Martin, former pastor of Redeemer Methodist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was retired from the Accomack County, Va., school system after 15 years of service. She was a member of Norfolk United Methodist Church and was very active in the life of her church. She had taught Sunday School, was a member of the Senior Choir, former president of the United Methodist Women's Society and member of the Finance Committee. She was a graduate of Virginia State College, now University, and received her master's degree from Norfolk State University. She was a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, United Order of Tents and New Light Chapter 219, Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include one sister, Julia H. Milburn-Newsome of the home; one brother, Russell B. Harper; one stepdaughter, Ella Martin Saunders and one stepson, Dempster E. Martin, both of Philadelphia; kind brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James A. Newsome and Magdalene Harper; and two nieces, Marion Hathaway and Roschell Smith. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Norfolk United Methodist Church by the Rev. Finley O. Jones. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa will hold a service at the funeral home at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
