A lifelong resident of Norfolk, she was the daughter of Dr. Walter B. Martin and Lucretia de Jarnette Martin. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy B. Martin. A lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was very active, and served as an elder. She graduated from The Graham School and Sweet Briar College. Organizations of which she was a member during her life include the Irene Leach Memorial and Society of the Arts, the Colonial Dames, The Hermitage Auxiliary, The Junior League of Norfolk and the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. She was the business manager and secretary at Freemason Street Baptist Church for many years. Survivors include her brother, Walter B. Martin Jr. and his wife; two nephews, Walter B. Martin III and his wife, Barron Black Martin and his wife; a great- niece, Sarah Bramblet Martin; and a great-nephew, Barron Black Martin Jr. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 30, 1997, at First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk by Dr. J. Shepherd Russell. Burial will be held Monday at 1:45 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
