Martin, died at the cottage of her son, Willoughby Beach, Tuesday night, aged 72 years. Mrs. Martin came to Norfolk Tuesday and later went to Berkley to visit relatives and was to all appearances in her usual health. After returning to her home at Willoughby Beach she felt somewhat fatigued and retired at an early hour to her room for sleep. Two hours later some of the family went to her room and found that she had passed to the spirit world. The deceased was the widow of the late Col. James G. Martin, who preceded her to the grave in 1880. Before her marriage she was Miss Bettie Love Gresham, daughter of Thomas B. Gresham, of Norfolk County. She was a woman of a rare type of character, adorned with many beautiful and lovely traits, the claims of which were as an alabaster ornament that adorned and beautified the lives of those by whom she was surrounded. As a Christian, she was guileless in life, as a mother loving and tender in her devotion to her children, by whom she was loved and idolized. She is survived by a brother, Thos. B. Gresham, postmaster of Berkley, and three children, Alvah H. Martin, George G. Martin and Mrs. S.W. Lyons, wife of S.W. Lyons, treasurer of Norfolk County. The funeral will take place from the residence of Alvah H. Martin Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The services will be conducted by Rev. George E. Booker, pastor of Epworth M.E. Church and the interment will be made in Magnolia Cemetery. ************ The sudden death of Mrs. Bettie Martin, which occurred at Willoughby Beach yesterday proved quite a shock to her friends in Berkley Ward, where she spent the greater portion of her life.
