Frederick Martino died suddenly at his home on Tunstall Avenue at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The circumstances attending his demise are most distressing. He rose early in the morning of that day in perfect health, and attended the 11 o’clock services at the Christian Memorial Temple, came home and spoke of how much he enjoyed the singing and sermon and when dinner was announced, sat down at the table and ate freely. After finishing his meal he went to the chamber where his wife has been sick for several weeks and relieved the trained nurse, Miss Harris, so that she could have dinner. He sat down by the bedside and began to fan his wife, when he was heard to make sudden groans which attracted the attention of the nurse, who ran immediately to the room to find Mr. Martino with his head inclined upon the pillow beside his wife, and in an unconscious state. He gasped twice and died almost instantly. Only eight minutes elapsed from the time of his attack to his decease. His body was viewed later by a physician who pronounced the cause of death as apoplexy. Mr. Martino was born in Baltimore, Md. His wife who was a Miss Porter, is from New Kent County, Va. He came to Norfolk with his family from West Point, Va., about three years ago and made his home on Tunstall Avenue, were he has since resided. He was in the employ of the Southern Railway, having been connected with it for a number of years and possessed the confidence of that company. He was a most excellent citizen, a member of the Christian Memorial Temple, and his untimely death is deeply deplored by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. His sorrowing widow and only child, a little girl of tender years, though deeply afflicted by his removal from earth, are reconciled to their sad lot, believing that their loss is his eternal gain. The funeral will be held from the residence at 4:30 this afternoon.
