Mascarinas of 500 Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA, died on Monday, June 13, 2022. She was from Tubigon, Bohol Philippines, the fifth child of the late Judge Teofilo A. Mascarinas, Sr. and Basilia Cano Mascarinas. She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, College of Medicine, Manila, Philippines and immediately came to the U.S.A. for postgraduate training in Pediatrics at New York Medical College-Metropolitan Hospital Center, in New York City; passed the Pediatric Board, after which, as a diplomate in Pediatrics, she proceeded to take subspecialty training in Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, in Kansas City. Having all these done in her six years study-training in the U.S.A., she immediately returned to the Philippines, taught as an associate professor in Pediatrics at Southwestern University College of Medicine in Cebu City for two years, as well as practiced Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology in Cebu City and Bohol, for four years. She then returned to the U.S.A. and settled in Hampton Roads area since 1972. After many years of study, training and medical practice, she decided to give more free time for herself on weekends, and enjoy life at a different level. She worked as a pediatrician at the Norfolk Health Department for 23 years, two years of which were spent at the Virginia Beach Health Department. She was a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Virginia Medical Society, Norfolk Academy of Medicine, Philippine Medical Association of America, Philippine Medical Association of Southeastern Virginia, University of Santo Tomas Alumni Association of Tidewater and of the U.S.A. She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and Choir of Virginia Beach; a Third Order of the Two Hearts of Jesus and Mary; the Alliance of the Holy Family International, Virginia Beach Branch; the Philippine American Community of Tidewater, and the Cebuano Speaking Association of Tidewater. She had a very fulfilling life especially during her retirement years, in profession, religious, social, and cultural activities. She enjoyed operas, concerts, theaters and social activities with family, associates, and friends. She lived in the Oceanfront of Virginia Beach since 1976, to be close to her favorite summer activity – fishing, which she enjoyed very much with her family and friends. She is survived by two brothers, Dr. Teofilo C. Mascarinas, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Cesar C. Mascarinas and wife Vivien of Tubigon Bohol, Philippines, and two sisters, Adelaida M. Lopez and husband Leonardo of Virginia Beach, Teresita C. Mascarinas of New Jersey, 21 nieces and nephews, 45 grandnieces and grandnephews. She thanked very wholeheartedly all her brothers, sisters and their families, and the many relatives and friends who extended their prayers and very generous hearts and hands to her during her long illness and disability. She thanked also the generous staff of Marian Manor Assisted Living Community in Virginia Beach where she lived for 11 years and Liza’s Residential Care for 1 year. A wake will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the OBLATE APOSTLES of the TWO HEARTS of Dover, DE, C/O Josie Dabu, Virginia Beach Chapter; St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Virginia Beach; St. Luke Catholic Church, Virginia Beach. A reception will follow after the interment at the Felynn Oriental Restaurant, 1943 Lynnhaven Parkway, Virginia Beach at 1:00 pm.
