Virginian-Pilot  April 29, 1938
Joseph M. Mason, aged 76 years, native of Richmond and resident of Norfolk for the 
past 32 years, died Wednesday night at 9:20 o’clock at a local hospital. Mr. Mason 
was a former jailer under the late City Sergeant Charles E. Francis. Remains will 
be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial avenue, to St. 
Mary’s Catholic Church, for services Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment 
will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
