Mason, 46, a Naval Air Station mechanic, was fatally injured early Saturday in a two car collision at Tidewater Drive and Little Creek Road. Police said the accident occurred about 12:25 a.m. when a car driven by Allen Vance Cahoon, 26, of the 800 block of Mayfield Avenue, went out of control and crashed into the side of Mason's vehicle. The collision was in an underpass near Southern Shopping Center. Mason, whose address was listed as the 3700 block of Davis Street, was employed as an airframe mechanic at Norfolk Naval Air Station. He was pronounced dead at De Paul Hospital shortly after the accident. A native of Lynchburg, Mason was a son of Mrs. Carolyn Noblett Mason of Lynchburg and the late John Mason. He was the husband of Mrs. Madeline Shank Mason. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and an Army veteran of World War II. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Wendell and Mrs. Nancy Hughes of Norfolk; and two brothers, R.C. Mason of Lynchburg and R.W. Mason of Norfolk. A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Smith & Williams Funeral Home.
