Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark February 9, 1939

Mrs. Marcia Robert Massey, aged 69, died yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock 
at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. L.A. Newberry, 843 Orville avenue, 
Avalon, South Norfolk, after an illness of several months.  She was a native 
of Tunis, N.C. and had made her home in this section 36 years, where she was 
well known and esteemed.  She was a daughter of William D. and Mary 
Stephenson McGlaughon and widow of Samuel J. Massey. Surviving her are a 
daughter, Mrs. Newberry; two sons, James M. Odom, South Norfolk and Nelson 
A. Odom, Fort Monroe; four sisters, Mrs. D.H. Parr and Mrs. C.L. Scott, 
Coffield, N.C., Mrs. C.M. Brett, Fayetteville, N.C. and Mrs. J.C. Ross, 
South Norfolk; four brothers, J.O McGlaughon, South Norfolk; W.P. 
McGlaughon, Ahoskie, N.C.; D.H. McGlaughon, Wilmington, N.C. and L.E. 
McGlaughon, Newport News; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Massey was a member of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church, Berkley 
Chapter No. 52, Order Eastern Star; Silverstream Council No. 18, D. of P.; 
Oakdale Rebekah Lodge No. 17, and the Three Score and Ten Club.
The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson 
streets, South Norfolk.  Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon 
at 3 o'clock at the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church.  Burial will be in the 
family plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
