Norfolk Virginian Pilot, Tuesday, July 26,1938
Mrs. Susan Hudgins Mathews, aged 81, widow of Richard H. Mathews, died at a
local hospital yesterday morning at 5:40 o’clock after a short illness.  Mrs.
Mathews was a native of Nansemond County, but had been a resident of Norfolk for
the past 35 years.  Surviving her is a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Mance, of Norfolk;
 four sons, Timothy H. and Mills R. Mathews, of Crittenden, and John T. and
Richard D. Mathews, of Norfolk;  25 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
 Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock from the
Derry Funeral Chapel, Colley and Harrington avenues.  The Rev. H. A. Harrell,
pastor of Ocean View Methodist Church, will officiate.  Burial will be in Forest
Lawn Cemetery.
