Retired Real Estate Broker Dies After Illness of Year

Frank DeCordy Matthews, 77, retired real estate broker, died at a Norfolk 
hospital yesterday at 6:10 p.m. after an illness of a year. A native of 
Norfolk, he had been a resident of this section all his life. He resided at 
327 Cavalier Lane, Virginia Beach.
Mr. Matthews was a son of Wesley Daniel and Mrs. Frances Gertrude DeCordy 
Matthews. He was a member of Christ and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. He is 
survived by his wife, Mrs. Blanche Odend’hal Matthews; a daughter Mrs. James 
B. Vrendenburgh, of Alexandria; a son, Frank DeCordy Matthews, Jr., of 
Calcutta, India, and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Cox Funeral Home tomorrow at 4 
p.m. by the Rev. Taylor Willis, rector of Christ and St. Luke’s Episcopal 
Church. Burial will be in the family plot at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
