NORFOLK - Mrs. Lillian Hammond Matthewson of 812 Fremon St., the widow of 
William H. Mathewson and a native of Tarboro, N.C., died Friday in her home.

She was a member of Greater Metropolitan AME Zion Church and president of the 
Builder's Club. She also was a member of the Independent Order of Saint Luke.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Bernice M. Gholson of Portsmouth, and 
Mrs. Eleanor Barrett and Mrs. Mittie M. Coleman of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. 
Julia H. Clark of Norfolk, Mrs. Susie Yeoman of Portsmouth, and Miss Laura 
Hammond of Tarboro; two brothers, William D. Hammond of Brooklyn and Wiley 
Hammond of Durham, N.C.; and a grandchild.

A funeral will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Greater Metropolitan AME Zion Church 
by the Rev. Jackson A. Browne. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with B.F. King 
Funeral Home in charge. The body will be in church at noon Tuesday.
