NORFOLK - William H. Matthewson of 812 Fremont St., died Saturday in a hospital.

A native of Tarboro, N.C., he was the husband of Mrs. Lillian H. Matthewson and 
a son of the late Rev. Mack Donald Matthewson and Mrs. Mary Matthewson.

He owned and operated Matthewson Contracting Co. 35 years and was a member of 
the Brotherhood Bible Class, Communion Committee, and deacon of First Baptist 
Church, Bute Street, and a member of National Ideal Benefit Society.

Besides his widow, surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Bernice M. Gholson of 
Portsmouth and Mrs. Eleanor Williams, and Mrs. Mittie M. Coleman of Norfolk; a 
brother, Walter J. Matthewson of Berkeley, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Suanna Thomas 
of Tarboro; and a grandchild.

B.F. King Funeral Home will take the body to First Baptist Church Tuesday at 
noon for a funeral service at 2 p.m. by the Rev. E.P. Sims. Burial will be in 
Calvary Cemetery.
