NORFOLK - Mabel E. Matthews of 118 W. 38th St., Apartment B, died Thursday in a
hospital. She was a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., and the widow of Delmar Matthews.

Mrs. Matthews had retired from a job in Norfolk public schools after 12 years.

Survivors include her father, Robert Lee Cox; two daughters, Evonne Matthews of
Norfolk and Vivian D. Pope of Chesapeake; two sons, Vernon Matthews and Delmar
Matthews Jr., both of Norfolk; a sister, Helen Greene, and two brothers, Robert Lee
Cox Jr. and Haywood Cox, all of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and 11 grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in New Community Church of God in
Christ by Bishop Tim Thomas Sr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

A wake service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Graves Funeral Home. The
family will assemble at the residence.
