                        Joseph Mathews
Joseph Mathews, a former resident of this city, died at 6:50 o'clock last 
Saturday night in Virginia hospital, Richmond, at the age of 60 years.
He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Emily C. Mathews, of New Jersey and the 
following daughters, Miss Annie M. Mathews, of New Jersey, Mrs. C.C. 
Snowden, of Norfolk, Mrs. W.T. Brinkley, of this city, and Mrs. C.L. Spaine, 
of Richmond. Two sons, W.J. Mathews, of Richmond and Joseph Mathews, U.S.N. 
also survive him, as well as a sister, Mrs. W.T. Westcott, of Chesterfield 
county, Va.
The body was brought to the city yesterday and was conveyed to the residence 
of Mr. Mathews' daughter, Mrs. W.T. Brinkley, 306 Armstrong street, where 
the funeral service will take place at 4 o'clock this afternoon.
Burial will take place in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley.

The funeral service of Joseph Mathews, a former resident of this city, who 
died last Saturday night in Virginia hospital, Richmond, took place at 4 
o'clock yesterday afternoon in the residence of his daughter, Mrs. W.T. 
Brinkley, 306 Armstrong street.  Rev. E.E. Dudley, pastor of the Park View 
Baptist Church, conducted the service.
Burial took place in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley.  The pallbearers were:  
James Randolph, J.C. Brinkley, W.F. Hoggard, L.M. Harrell, F.T. Briggs and 
C.L. Wiggins.
