He has been suffering from a complication of diseases some time and on returning from New York last Wednesday on business, he went to the hospital for treatment. His condition continued to grow worse until the end came six hours later. He was 52 years of age and was born at Crittenden, Nansemond county, but had been living here for the past thirty-six years. He was married twenty-seven years ago to Miss Hulda T. Gray, of Nansemond. He is survived by his widow and three children--Miss Burnice Mayo, Henry Clay Mayo and Arthur Mayo--also his mother, Mrs. Delia Mayo, and one brother, J.C. Mayo, and three sisters, Mesdames Alex Pebworth, J.I. Goodman and G.W. Brown. Mr. Mayo was widely known through this section and had many friends who will regret to learn of his death. The funeral takes place from the family residence at the foot of Pearl street this afternoon at 3 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. T. McN. Simpson, D.D., pastor of Memorial M.E. Church. The remains will be laid to rest in Magnolia Cemetery.
