Mrs. Georgia Binns McCarrick, wife of Capt. James W. McCarrick, general agent 
here of the Clyde Steamship Company, former president of the Board of Trader and 
one of Norfolk’s best-known citizens, was stricken with heart trouble early 
yesterday morning at 5 o’clock and died before physicians could reach her 
bedside. Death came at the McCarrick family home, No. 207 Duke street.
Mrs. McCarrick, despite her 69 years, was active and in excellent health 
Saturday and Saturday night before retiring. Early yesterday morning, she 
aroused the family, complaining that she was ill. Dr. James G. Riddick, the 
family physician, was summoned. Before he arrived at the home, only three blocks 
away, Mrs. McCarrick had passed away.
Not only to her immediate family, but to her large circle of friends in Norfolk, 
her death came as a great shock. It was only a few days ago that she was seen 
out driving with one of her grandchildren.
Mrs. McCarrick has been a resident of Norfolk for 44 years. Her friends here are 
legion. Before her marriage, she was a Miss Georgia Jones of Selma, Ala. She was 
married to Captain McCarrick in 1867.
A husband, five children and fourteen grandchildren survive. Her children are 
Mrs. Bowden Carey, of Norfolk; Mrs. Irving Martin, of Newport News; Miss Mary 
McCarrick, James A. McCarrick and Joseph D. McCarrick, of Norfolk.
The funeral will be held privately from the family residence Tuesday morning at 
11 o’clock and interment will be in St. Mary’s cemetery.
