A native of Norfolk, he had made his home at Hickory for 40 years. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Blackwater Baptist Church. His parents were Joseph and Mrs. Lucille Teabault McClain. His late wife was Mrs. Sophie Berry McClain. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jane Gardner, of Norfolk, and Mrs. Marie Carawan, of Hickory; five sons, Lemuel McClain Jr. and Earl W. McClain, both of Hickory; Webster McClain, of Marlboro, N.J.; James I. McClain, USAF, Langley AFB, and Ray H. McClain, of Kempsville; two sisters, Mrs. J.Y. DeBaun, of South Norfolk, and Mrs. Lillian Phelps, of Norfolk; five brothers, Emmett McClain, of Hickory; Oscar McClain, of Great Bridge; Elmer McClain, of Marion; J.Preston McClain and Edward McClain, both of South Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Graham Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park.
