McCLOUD DEAD No death in a long time has caused more sorrow to friends than that of Mrs. James (John) McCloud, Jr., which occurred at Dr. Gwathmey's sanitarium, in Norfolk, yesterday morning at 7 o'clock. Mrs. McCloud was taken to the hospital about ten days ago to be operated on after a prolonged suffering of two years from a tumor. The much dreaded task was performed Wednesday morning and it was at first thought that she would survive. She was 35 years of age and a woman of Christian fortitude and possessed an enviable character, which won for her a host of friends. She was conscious until the last hour and talked of heaven and loved ones on earth, and planned for their well-being. To the husband she wrote a letter of condolence, which she alleged was written without a tear and a fear of death. She was a member of Main Street Christian church and leaves to mourn her loss a sorrowing husband, six small children, six sisters, three brothers and a father, Mr. J.A. Matthews, of Isle of Wight county. The funeral will be conducted from the family residence this afternoon at 4 o'clock, with Dr. S.S. Lambeth, pastor of the Liberty Street M.E. church, officiating. The interment will be made in Magnolia cemetery. FUNERAL OF MRS. McCLOUD The funeral of Mrs. J.A. McCloud, Jr., was conducted from the family residence yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the presence of a host of friends and relatives, the residence being filled to overflowing. Rev. S.S. Lambeth, D.D., pastor of the Liberty Street M.E. church, officiated. His remarks included many touching and comforting words. At the conclusion of his discourse the remains were taken to Magnolia cemetery, where they were interred. On and about the grave were laid many beautiful floral designs, until the deceased slept beneath a bed of flowers. The attendance at the grave was also very large. The pall- bearers were Messrs. George H. Frey, Sam W. Pierce, D.J. Bowden, G.R. LeRoy, H.J.B.Clark, W.C. Abbott, John Laton and Dr. John Jackson.
